Richard Brown Posted August 31, 2017 at 04:06 PM Report Share Posted August 31, 2017 at 04:06 PM Nothing in RONR prohibits it unless the vote took place in executive (secret) session.

If it is desired to have a recorded vote, a motion to do so (Roll-Call Vote) should be made.

And if the Board starts claiming that they are holding all their votes in Executive Session then you need new directors, and/or a clause in the By-laws limiting when the Board can doe things in secret. The board could adopt a rule requiring it. I take it that this is a small board.

Maybe, but don't you think there are organizations where this would be a good idea, and generally accepted?

Sure, but the organization should adopt a rule to that effect. RONR's default is "open" meetings.

That would be nice, but when it comes to condominiums, I know a thing or two about some of the 'tricks' that can be played (and yes, I live in a condominium.) I'm sure there are, but I think that in condominium and homeowner associations, board members are more in the role of representatives of a constituency, and as a class these organizations are more likely to benefit from transparency. So, in general, I'd recommend that their bylaws contain reasonable limitations on the use of executive session, provide for the routine use of roll-call votes, and making board meeting minutes available to general members.
