Guest Jennifer Posted April 30, 2018 at 06:25 PM Report Share Posted April 30, 2018 at 06:25 PM Can a Board member propose a vote on a topic that is not being put up to vote by the Executive?
Chris Harrison Posted April 30, 2018 at 06:32 PM Report Share Posted April 30, 2018 at 06:32 PM Maybe. Can you supply more details starting off with what you are referring to by "the Executive"? Executive Board? Executive Committee? Executive Officer? Something else?
Richard Brown Posted April 30, 2018 at 06:33 PM Report Share Posted April 30, 2018 at 06:33 PM Yes, unless you have a customized rule to the contrary. But, normally a member would not propose a vote, but would make a motion to do something and the motion would ultimately be voted on. I will probably forever wonder why, how and where the use of the term "The Executive" came into use when referring to an executive board or executive committee. I shake my head every time i see it. You NEVER hear the term in the South, at least not in my part of the South! When I see it used, I usually respond pretty much the same way you did, Chris! Maybe she meant "Executive Chef"??? 🙂
George Mervosh Posted April 30, 2018 at 06:39 PM Report Share Posted April 30, 2018 at 06:39 PM I thought the term might be in the Deluxe Edition, but it's not.

Always a good idea, but in this particular case it seems to me that in any event the answer is “Yes, unless your rules provide otherwise.”

If it's not a board meeting, then I don't know that the answer is yes.
