Guest Susan Posted April 16, 2019 at 12:42 PM Report Share Posted April 16, 2019 at 12:42 PM Have looked through Robert's Rules of Order and have not found an answer. We had a person nominate themselves for an office. I've never heard of such, but can you? Thank Susan

Richard Brown Posted April 16, 2019 at 12:45 PM Report Share Posted April 16, 2019 at 12:45 PM Yes, it is permissible. It is sometimes frowned upon by others, but it is absolutely permissible. In some circles it is simply considered volunteering.

Drake Savory Posted April 16, 2019 at 04:41 PM Report Share Posted April 16, 2019 at 04:41 PM Here's the thing, a member can nominate anyone who is eligible for the office. p 431-433 "Nominations from the Floor". There is nothing that explicitly says the member can nominate themselves but if the member were eligible then what would prevent them from nominating themselves? Only a rule against it which doesn't exist and therefore is not in the book. So for the OP there is no cite we can give you other than reading the section of nominations.
