What is the proper procedure to do so? While the main motion is pending, a member, obtaining the floor, can move That the vote on this motion be taken by ballot. The motion requires a second, is not debatable, and needs a majority vote to be adopted. See RONR 12th ed. §30 for more details. Rob Elsman Posted March 29, 2021 at 07:43 PM Report Share Posted March 29, 2021 at 07:43 PM Alternatively, a member can make a preliminary main motion when no business is pending. In this case, the motion is debatable. It would also be amendable as to the method of voting.
