Chris Harrison Posted June 3, 2014 at 11:54 PM Report Share Posted June 3, 2014 at 11:54 PM What do your bylaws say? Do they even authorize the calling of a Special Meeting?
Guest kendo Posted June 4, 2014 at 12:00 AM Report Share Posted June 4, 2014 at 12:00 AM yes. our by-laws onlu say that the President must call a special meeting when requested by not less than 10 active members specifying the object of the meeting. and provided not less than 5 days written notice of special meeting be given to all members stating the purpose of the meeting. nothing says how long he can take before he calls it though. Edgar Guest Posted June 4, 2014 at 12:09 AM Report Share Posted June 4, 2014 at 12:09 AM I'd say he should do it as soon as possible. If you think he's stalling, see FAQ #20.
George Mervosh Posted June 4, 2014 at 04:37 PM Report Share Posted June 4, 2014 at 04:37 PM I'd say he should do it as soon as possible. If you think he's stalling, see FAQ #20. Considering there's nothing for him to do except tell the Secretary to send the notice, there should be no stalling on his part: "The president directs the secretary to send the notice of the special meeting to all members at the society's expense in compliance with the bylaws no later than the required number of days in advance, making sure that it contains all the necessary information." RONR (11th ed.), pp. 92-3.
Gary Novosielski Posted June 4, 2014 at 05:05 PM Report Share Posted June 4, 2014 at 05:05 PM That language suggests that those requesting the special meeting could have specified a requested date for the meeting, making sure that it is sufficiently late enough to allow the president to direct the secretary accordingly,
