Guest Lee Harris Posted October 18, 2012 at 07:27 PM Report Share Posted October 18, 2012 at 07:27 PM Our Treasurer is continually absent from both Executive Committee Meetings and General Meetings. Can the Chairman ask for the Treasurer's resignation?
JohnR Posted October 18, 2012 at 07:30 PM Report Share Posted October 18, 2012 at 07:30 PM Yes, but that would be a private or administrative affair rather than a parliamentary one. The treasurer need not oblige.

Can the Chairman ask for the Treasurer's resignation? The chairman has no special powers in this regard, except as provide in your bylaws. Certainly the chairman can ask, but so can anyone else. I could ask, for that matter.
Rev Ed Posted October 19, 2012 at 05:14 PM Report Share Posted October 19, 2012 at 05:14 PM Anyone can ask another to resign. The Board, or the general membership, can pass a motion asking someone to resign. However, no one can be forced to resign. If necessary the Treasurer can be removed from office, but that is a different matter altogether.

Gary c Tesser Posted October 19, 2012 at 11:53 PM Report Share Posted October 19, 2012 at 11:53 PM Can't the board, or the general membership, pass a motion asking for the keys to my silver Porsche? Or your new silver Porsche?
Rev Ed Posted October 20, 2012 at 03:35 AM Report Share Posted October 20, 2012 at 03:35 AM Just as simple as that? I don't think so.Yes it is. If we both served on a Board, you could make a moiton asking me to resign and the Board could pass the motion. However, I could refuse to resign. JohnR Posted October 20, 2012 at 06:57 PM Report Share Posted October 20, 2012 at 06:57 PM Whether you are asked to resign or not, the decision is still yours. Adopting this motion has the same effect as not adopting it, and therefore it's dilatory. A motion to censure you, expressing the opinion that you ought to resign, would be in order.
