Guest Guest Posted October 12, 2014 at 10:47 PM Report Share Posted October 12, 2014 at 10:47 PM The President of our board has turned in her resignation. Under out bylaws and RRoO, the Vice-President now becomes the President. Our bylaws state that the Past-President also sits on the board. So - does the resigning President now become the Past-President and the former Past-President move off the board?
Richard Brown Posted October 12, 2014 at 10:52 PM Report Share Posted October 12, 2014 at 10:52 PM Yes, unless your bylaws provide some sort of exception for this particular situation.

Yep. So you might want to re-think that "past-president" thing.

RONR does not hold an answer to this question, since• you have a customized position ("past president", a term not found in RONR),• plus a customized job for the Past President. There is nothing in RONR to contradict that arrangement.
Rev Ed Posted October 13, 2014 at 12:44 AM Report Share Posted October 13, 2014 at 12:44 AM Also, the resignation does not take effect until it is accepted. But as others have pointed out, this is an example of the issue with having the (Immediate) Past President on the Board. If the current President no longer wants to do the job, he/she remains on the Board as the (Immediate) Past President, which may lead to a position that is filled but the person does not perform the job. There's nothing in RONR that covers this.
