Board Resignation Questions

The President of our board has turned in her resignation. Under out bylaws and RRoO, the Vice-President now becomes the President.  Our bylaws state that the Past-President also sits on the board. So - does the resigning President now become the Past-President and the former Past-President move off the board?

and the former Past-President move off the board?

Just using logic and English syntax, your scenario must be the case.

"A current P who loses his office, by definition, becomes a Past P."

RONR does not hold an answer to this question, since

• you have a customized position ("past president", a term not found in RONR),

• plus a customized job for the Past President.

There is nothing in RONR to contradict that arrangement.

Also, the resignation does not take effect until it is accepted.  But as others have pointed out, this is an example of the issue with having the (Immediate) Past President on the Board.  If the current President no longer wants to do the job, he/she remains on the Board as the (Immediate) Past President, which may lead to a position that is filled but the person does not perform the job.

Well, it sure looks like it, but they're your rules.  There's nothing in RONR that covers this.
