Richard Brown Posted March 19, 2018 at 04:59 PM Report Share Posted March 19, 2018 at 04:59 PM What is an "SAL"? What is an "ALR"? RONR has no restrictions whatsoever on members belonging to more than one organization or holding offices in more than one. If there is some relationship between the two organizations you speak of, it would be helpful if you would tell us just what that relationship is. Guest Eddie Posted March 19, 2018 at 06:33 PM Report Share Posted March 19, 2018 at 06:33 PM SAL is Sons of American Legion,ALR is American Legion Riders <in order to be in the ALR you have to be a legion member already such as the SAL. J. J. Posted March 19, 2018 at 10:10 PM Report Share Posted March 19, 2018 at 10:10 PM There is no prohibition in RONR. I would suggest you check the bylaws of each group.
Guest Who's Coming to Dinner Posted March 20, 2018 at 01:42 AM Report Share Posted March 20, 2018 at 01:42 AM Nor does RONR prohibit duels, but they are still not recommended.
DR Stockley Posted March 21, 2018 at 04:28 AM Report Share Posted March 21, 2018 at 04:28 AM While I'm not familiar with either of those two groups, if I'm correct in assuming that they are both auxiliary organizations of the American Legion, I would think that any prohibitions to duel memberships would be a matter covered under their national by-laws. I know that the national by-laws of our organization does not permit members from holding two elected offices at the same time. However, that is in relation to their membership in one organization and not subsidiary units.
Gary Novosielski Posted March 21, 2018 at 06:59 PM Report Share Posted March 21, 2018 at 06:59 PM On 3/19/2018 at 9:42 PM, Guest Who's Coming to Dinner said: Nor does RONR prohibit duels, but they are still not recommended. I think this hinges on whether the State law against duelling is deemed to be in the nature of a rule of order.
Benjamin Geiger Posted March 21, 2018 at 07:09 PM Report Share Posted March 21, 2018 at 07:09 PM (edited) Yeah, I don't think dueling conforms to parliamentary procedure. It has its own set of rules. I could let this opportunity for a Hamilton reference go by, but, appropriately enough, I'm not throwing away my shot. Edited March 21, 2018 at 07:19 PM by Benjamin Geiger Forgot a whole paragraph. Joshua Katz Posted March 21, 2018 at 07:55 PM Report Share Posted March 21, 2018 at 07:55 PM I think RONR does prohibit dueling during meetings as a decorum issue.
